1971

MC Lyte, or Lana Michele Moore, was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 11, 1971.
1986

Lyte recorded her first song "I Cram to Understand U (Sam)," which led to her signing with Atlantic Records.
1988

MC Lyte becomes the first female solo rapper to release a full album with Lyte as a Rock.
1989

Lyte releases her sophomore effort, Eyes on This, featuring singles "Cha Cha Cha" and "Cappuccino."
1991

The album Act Like You Know is released, and is acclaimed for its new jack swing sound and the hit "Poor Georgie."
1993

Ain't No Other becomes Lyte's first album to go gold. She also stars in a movie titled Fly by Night. Her song “Ruffneck,” was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rap Single making her the first female solo rapper to be nominated for a Grammy
1996

Lyte's album Bad as I Wanna B, released on East West Records, features up and coming rapper Missy Elliott, as well as major producers Sean Combs and Jermaine Dupri.
1997

Launches a global entertainment firm, Sunny Girl, Inc., that specializes in artist management and development, consulting, and creative and production services.
1998

Lyte's album Seven & Seven is less successful, and she leaves East West Records.
2003

The Underground Heat is recorded independently, and the single "Ride Wit Me" is nominated for a Grammy and a BET Award. MC Lyte also plays a role in the movie Player's Ball.
2005

Lands a recurring role in the UPN sitcom "Half & Half."
2006

MC Lyte performs on the Ebony Black Family Reunion Tour, and releases her first self-published literary work "Just My Take," a book of words of inspiration and poetry for today's Hip-hop generation. MC Lyte also becomes the first female solo rapper to be honored on VH1’s Hip Hop Honors annual award show.
2011

She becomes the first African American female president of the LA Chapter of the Recording Academy, aka the Grammy organization.
2013

Receives a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2013 Hip Hop Inaugural Ball, as well as the BET “I Am Hip Hop” Icon Lifetime Achievement Award.
